New movie: Midnight Sun

Posted by Janine on February 9th, 2013 under Movie News

Even though he didn’t feature in Whit Stillman’s “Damsels In Distress,” the last year or so has seen the director’s muse Chris Eigeman, who starred in “Metropolitan,” “Barcelona” and “The Last Days Of Disco,” become rather more visible again. There’s the potential of a reunion with his favorite director in the works, and Eigeman’s been cropping up on TV in the acclaimed likes of “Girls” and “Bunheads” in the last twelve months, but it looks like the comeback might be complete, as Eigeman’s prepping his second directorial feature, and has attracted a pretty impressive cast.

Screen Daily report that Eigeman’s “Midnight Sun,” a 1940s-set drama, has Jesse Eisenberg, Emile Hirsch and Diane Kruger all lined up to star. Set against the backdrop of the creation of the A-bomb (indeed, Richard Rhodes, who won the Pulitzer for his book “The Making of the Atomic Bomb,” is consulting on the project), it follows two young post-grads (presumably Eisenberg and Hirsch) who, in 1943, are recruited by the government to work on a secret project. Any guesses as to what that secret project might be?

We have to confess we never saw Eigeman’s 2007 directorial debut “Turn The River,” but have heard mostly good things. And this sounds like potentially fascinating subject matter, especially with three fine actors like Eisenberg (who continues to make excellent choices), Hirsch and Kruger involved. The project is being sold at the European Film Market this week, and shooting should get underway in the summer, so hopefully we’ll see it on screens in 2014. (source)

New movie: 5 to 7

Posted by Janine on October 17th, 2012 under Movie News

Diane Kruger (Inglourious Basterds, The Host) and Anton Yelchin (Fright Night, Star Trek) have signed on to star in the romantic comedy 5 to 7, it was announced today by producers Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird Pictures and The Solution Entertainment Group’s co-founders and partners, Lisa Wilson and Myles Nestel. The film is written and to be directed by Victor Levin (“Mad Men”).

Scheduled to start production in late February 2013, 5 to 7 is set in New York, where an aspiring novelist (Yelchin) has a cinq-a-sept affair with the beautiful wife of a French diplomat (Kruger). Cultures, world views, personal ethics and dietary preferences clash as love deepens, with remarkable results in this romantic comedy.

“Vic Levin’s script has us in tears — we’re just not sure if it’s from laughing or crying. We’re excited about the grace and intelligence that he, Diane and Anton will bring to their interpretations of his beautiful story,” said Curtis and Lynn.

“This is just a great script with a wonderful cast attached and filmmakers involved who have a fantastic track record. It exactly matches our criteria of offering only the very best in independent filmmaking to our clients. The response to the project has been overwhelming,” said Wilson and Nestel.

Wilson and Nestel are on board as co-executive producers of the film with the company also handling international distribution rights. The Solution will introduce the project to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market. (source
